Freedom Recycling is a 20-year-old family-run business that offers a range of commercial and home waste and recycling solutions – and operates a zero-landfill policy. It segregates and recycles all materials it can – and supplies those that can’t be for power generation.
The recycling industry is growing rapidly, so the business has had to adapt its 50,000-tonne facility at Hockwold Norfolk to meet increasing demand. in just a decade, Freedom has more than quadrupled its skip hire operation.
The need for a more versatile shredder
Freedom Recycling needed to make its processes more efficient, including through the investment of technology and recycling methods. The first area of focus was waste shredding, which had become laborious, not only due to the increase in materials to process, but also from having to use separate machines to shred different materials.
Paul, Freedom Recycling’s Managing Director, met Global Machinery Solutions’ Jason Purllant at a machinery event and discussed how he needed a shredder that was compact but could shred multiple waste streams. Jason suggested the Pronar MRW 2.85G and after Paul saw it in action during a demo, realised this shredder ticked all the boxes.
The Pronar MRW 2.85G’s multiple material capability
As the Pronar shreds waste more finely, it had an instant positive impact at Freedom Recycling both operationally and economically.
The Pronar MRW 2.85G now processes around 100 tonnes of wood every week and 100 tonnes of waste every day – a huge increase which is only possible because of the shredder’s speed and ability to handle multiple materials.
Replacing manual waste shovelling with SANY SY75C excavator
Following the success of the Pronar shredder, Freedom Recycling approached Global Machinery Solutions for an excavator to feed waste from the skips into the hopper - replacing the previous manual shovelling process.
The SANY SY75C was the ideal choice. The excavator’s lifting capability, combined with its compact and versatile manoeuvrability, means hundreds of tonnes of waste are fed onto the hopper within the confined area of the outbuilding it operates it.
